Man arrested in fatal Christmas morning shooting in Garland

A man is facing a murder charge in the shooting death of another man found wounded on Christmas morning in Garland, police say.

Garland police said 24-year-old Johnny Lewis III faces a murder charge in connection with the slaying of 34-year-old Fuad Baranja. Lewis is being held in the Garland jail and his bond had not been set, police said Tuesday afternoon. It is unclear whether he has an attorney.

Officers responded just before 8 a.m. Monday to a call about a gunshot wound near the Z Chandelier Cafe and Lounge in the 4400 block of West Walnut Street, near North Plano Road.

Garland police said emergency personnel found Baranja lying in a parking lot with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries Tuesday.

Witnesses told authorities a fight had escalated to gunfire. Police did not say when Lewis was taken into police custody but said his arrest was the result of an ongoing investigation.
