1 in custody after fatal shooting in southern Dallas on Christmas afternoon, police say

One person died and another is in police custody following a shooting on Christmas in southern Dallas, police said.

About 2:30 p.m. Monday, officers were dispatched to a shooting call in the 2700 block of Lenway Street, near the intersection of Warren Avenue and South Malcolm X Boulevard, police said.

According to police, officers found 37-year-old Michael Mitchell had been shot at the location. Dallas Fire-Rescue responded, and Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they took a suspect into custody but did not say what criminal charges they could be facing.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, police said, and will be referred to a Dallas County grand jury.
