Who are the 6 killed, 3 injured in Texas crash on day after Christmas? Here’s what we know

Six people died and three were critically injured in a deadly crash the day after Christmas in Johnson County.

Throughout Wednesday, details continued coming to light about those involved, how they knew each other and who they were.

Two teenagers were southbound in a pickup truck on U.S. Highway 67 when they crossed into the northbound lane in a “no passing” zone, according to authorities. They collided with a minivan traveling in the northbound lane.

The impact caused “heavy damage” to both vehicles, the Texas Department of Public Safety said in a news release, and the front of both vehicles appeared crushed in news helicopter footage.

Six people — including two children — inside of the minivan did not survive. One passenger was critically injured, along with the two teens from the pickup, according to authorities. They were taken to hospitals in Fort Worth, and were in critical condition as of late Tuesday.

Texas DPS said it worked to notify relatives of those in the minivan who died and thanked the Indian Consulate, the India Association of North Texas and law enforcement agencies for their assistance.

Here is what we know about those involved in the wreck.

All but one in minivan die in crash
A 9-year-old girl, Nishidha Potabathula, and 10-year-old boy, Krithik Potabathula, died in the crash. A woman, 36-year-old Naveena Potabathula, also died.

A man, Lokesh Potabathula, 43, was critically injured and taken to a hospital, Texas DPS said.

Nageswararao Ponnada and Sitamahalakshmi Ponnada, a man and woman aged 64 and 60, respectively, were among those who died, according to the department.

Also killed in the crash was Rushil Barri, a 28-year-old Irving man who was driving the minivan, according to authorities.

Barri is reportedly a “distant relative” to those in the minivan, said Ashok Kolla, with the Telugu Association of North America. The others are believed to have been part of the same family, he added.

Aside from the two children who died, the occupants are believed to be Indian nationals and Telugu-speaking, Kolla said. The Telugu association will work with the Consulate General of India in Houston to provide help to relatives of those killed or injured in the minivan.

Two teens critically injured
Luke Resecker and Preston Glass, both 17 years old, were in “critical condition” and flown by helicopter to hospital in Fort Worth, said William Lockridge, a Texas DPS spokesman.

Resecker was the driver, according to authorities.

Both teens were from Glen Rose, which is about 75 miles southwest of Dallas.

First responders
Multiple agencies responded to the deadly crash.

Lockridge said state troopers from Texas DPS — both those assigned to Johnson County and those from other parts of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office were among the agencies that aided.

CareFlite provided air transport to medical facilities and American Medical Response also responded to the crash, he said.

On its Facebook page, the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office asked for prayers for the families involved.

“Also, please pray for our Deputies, Troopers and all other first responders working this accident. It’s a devastating scene and very emotional for all involved,” a Facebook comment from the sheriff’s office read.
