Thunderstorm chances and near-record cold

Thursday promises to be another mild and breezy day across North Texas. Highs will be in the 60s to lower 70s with a south wind of 10-20 mph.

There is a chance for some thunderstorms late Thursday evening and overnight. The best chance will be from DFW and points east. Some gusty winds and small hail are possible with the strongest storms. A cold front will follow the storms late Thursday night, meaning Friday will be windy and much colder with highs in the 40s.

An even stronger front will arrive Saturday or early Sunday with the coldest air of the winter so far. Temperatures early next week will dip into the teens for lows! Monday’s high will remain below freezing. Wind chills will be below zero Sunday night into Monday morning.

There is a low chance that there may be enough moisture around for a winter mix Sunday night into Monday morning. However, there is still a lot of uncertainty and it’s a bit early to get too specific. Stay tuned as we get more model data.
