The first of two cold fronts arrives tonight

There is a chance for some thunderstorms late this evening and overnight. The best chance will be from DFW and points east. Some gusty winds and small hail are possible with the strongest storms. Areas east of DFW have a slight risk for severe weather. Stay weather aware overnight. A cold front will follow the storms late Thursday night, meaning Friday will be windy and much colder with highs in the 40s.

Midnight Thursday through noon Friday a wind advisory goes into effect. NW winds could gust up to 45 mph.

An even stronger front will arrive Saturday evening with the coldest air of the winter so far. Temperatures early next week will dip into the teens. Wind chill values below zero. Monday’s high will remain below freezing. Wind chills will be below zero Sunday night into Monday morning.

There is an increasing chance that there may be enough moisture around for a winter mix late Sunday into Monday morning. There is still a lot of uncertainty and it’s a bit early to get too specific. If wintry weather does develop there is a chance for travel impacts.
