Man dies, another injured working on water main near Providence Village water tower

Tragedy struck on Thursday in Denton County as a construction worker lost his life and another was injured while working on a water line.

According to firefighters in Aubrey, the incident occurred along Main Street in Providence Village around 12:15 p.m. The workers became trapped during the operation. Both were rushed to the hospital, with one in critical condition and the other in serious condition.

Sadly, one of the workers, identified as 29-year-old Jesus Perez Vasquez by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office, succumbed to his injuries about an hour later. His brother, Uriel Perez, expressed profound grief, emphasizing the irreplaceable loss felt by the family. Maria Vasquez, Perez’s widow of three months, shared the pain of their sudden separation, recalling their final text exchange just hours before the accident.

Aubrey Police conveyed their condolences to the family, acknowledging the tragic outcome of the accident and expressing solidarity in their sorrow.

While there is no immediate threat to public safety, issues at the water tower may intermittently affect the water supply until Saturday. Consequently, a boil water notice has been issued for the affected area.

Paselitos Hugo, a restaurant in Providence Village, remains operational but is adhering to the boil water notice. Owner Jairiveeh Higuera made the difficult decision to temporarily close the establishment until the water quality improves, underscoring the challenges posed by the situation.

During a distribution event, hundreds of cases of water were distributed within a span of five hours, highlighting the community’s response to support those affected by the water supply issue.
