La Liga: Omorodion scores twice as Alaves thrash rock-bottom Almeria

ALMERIA: Samuel Omorodion’s brace powered Alaves to a crushing 3-0 victory over rock-bottom Almeria in Friday’s La Liga fixture at Power Horse Stadium here.

Alaves got off to a commanding start, courtesy of Omorodion, against home side Almeria, who are yet to taste triumph in the ongoing La Liga 2023/24.

The 20-year-old centre-forward left behind Almeria’s defence and tickled the ball past charging goalkeeper Luís Maximiano to open the scoring for Alaves just after 10 minutes.

Later, just eight minutes into the second half. Omorodion was violently brought down in the box by the goalkeeper, paving the way for Luis Rioja to convert the penalty to make it 2-0.

Omorodion’s brilliant outing against Almeria was topped off with a stunning goal, scored from a tight angle just three minutes before the end of the game.

The brace bolstered Samuel Omorodion’s goal tally in the ongoing La Liga 2023/24 to seven, which helped Alaves move up one place to 11th in the standings.

“We’re on a good run, playing well and winning,” Omorodion told Movistar. “I am happy for the way I played but overall because I helped the team. It’s been a perfect evening.

“This could be my best performance of the season.”

Spain’s Omorodion then revealed that he might have scored the hat-trick but Rioja declined his request to take the penalty in the early minutes of the second half.
