Fort Worth police have made public the dash cam footage of the pursuit on West 7th

Fort Worth Police aimed to ensure pedestrian safety as they pursued 29-year-old Andrew Guerra, suspected of driving under the influence, reaching speeds of up to 85 mph on congested two-lane streets Saturday night.

Sergeant Jason Spencer stated, “The officers observed the driver strike several curbs, nearly colliding with several other vehicles, driving erratically and quite fast.”

The pursuit unfolded around 10 p.m. when officers, on patrol, witnessed Guerra exiting a parking lot without headlights and attempting to travel against traffic on a one-way street.

Amid a lawsuit concerning the department’s chase policy, Spencer refrained from confirming whether the officers adhered to protocol when initiating the pursuit. However, he noted that a supervisor had approved it.

“Our pursuit policy evaluates the threat a driver may pose to the public based on various factors, and our officers must always consider whether allowing a person to escape would present a greater risk to public safety than attempting to apprehend them,” Spencer emphasized.

The incident occurred in the bustling West 7th Entertainment District, an area of significant concern for public safety due to its high foot traffic.

Spencer remarked, “It is an area that the city has prioritized for safety efforts because of the large number of people there. Whenever we encounter someone driving recklessly or impaired, we understand the gravity of the situation.”

Police released dash camera footage on Monday depicting Guerra veering in front of oncoming traffic, mounting a curb, and striking a pole, which damaged his front left tire.

Despite the damage, Guerra continued to evade police, driving on a rim until colliding with another vehicle and injuring two pedestrians.

Authorities reported that both an adult male and an adult female were hospitalized with severe injuries.

Following the collision, Guerra was arrested and charged with intoxication assault with a vehicle, evading arrest, and unlawful restraint for allegedly preventing his passenger from exiting his truck.
