After 50 years, the stabbing death of an Arlington woman remains unsolved, with no answers in sight

50 years ago, an 18-year-old Arlington woman was fatally stabbed just months before her wedding, leaving behind few clues and little evidence to solve the case.

Vincent Strange, through his podcast Gone Cold: Texas True Crime, has recounted over 200 unsolved stories, including that of Cheryl Callaway, who was murdered in 1974 at the age of 18, similar to the case of Carla Walker, whose story was resolved recently after being kidnapped and killed in Fort Worth.

Cheryl Callaway was leaving the now-demolished Forum 303 Mall in Arlington on January 30, 1974, around 8 p.m., when witnesses heard her scream and saw a man attack her with an ice pick before fleeing in a white Oldsmobile Cutlass. Despite efforts to save her, Callaway succumbed to nearly 50 stab wounds.

Stephen Harris, whose brother was set to marry Callaway, remembers her as a kindhearted woman with an infectious smile. He continues to push for justice, although the investigation has hit dead ends, with some physical evidence lost in the 1980s.

Despite the challenges, Vincent Strange believes that with the right tip, Callaway’s case could finally be solved, offering hope for closure to her family and justice for her memory.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Arlington Police Department Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers of Tarrant County.
