Bumrah closes gap on top-ranked Ashwin in ICC Test Bowling Rankings

DUBAI: Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah surged to the fourth position and closed the gap with top-ranked fellow Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s Test Bowling Rankings.

Bumrah jumped four places to acquire the fourth spot with 825 points after taking six wickets in the thrilling first Test against England in Hyderabad, which India lost by 28 runs.

Ashwin also claimed six wickets in the first Test to maintain his top spot in the ICC Test Bowling Rankings with 853 points, followed by South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada (851) and Australian captain Pat Cummins (828) in the second and third position respectively.

Meanwhile, the West Indies bowlers also witnessed a significant rise in the ICC Test Bowling Rankings following their historic victory over Australia in the Brisbane Test.

Kemar Roach gained two places to reach 17th place and Alzarri Joseph jumped four places to 33rd after their impressive performance in Brisbane.

Meanwhile, the hero of the Brisbane Test, Shamar Joseph reached the 50th spot after gaining 42 spots.

Australian opening batter Usman Khawaja acquired eighth spot in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings on the back of his half-century in the first innings of the Brisbane Test.

However, he shares the spot with England’s Harry Brook, who also has 765 points, two shy of Virat Kohli’s 767 points at seventh spot.

England’s middle-order batter Ollie Pope, who scored a defiant 196 in the second innings of the Hyderabad Test, reached the 15th position after jumping a whopping 20 spots in the ICC Test Batting Rankings.

Meanwhile, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson remained at the top of Test batting rankings with 864 points, a massive 32 points over the second-ranked England’s Joe Root.
