Dallas Black Dance Theatre is getting ready for their upcoming show titled ‘Cultural Awareness’

Dancers from the Dallas Black Dance Theatre are currently in rehearsals for an upcoming performance titled ‘Cultural Awareness,’ scheduled for next week.

Hana Delong, a dancer with the Dallas Black Dance Theatre, is choreographing her debut piece for DBDT called ‘Post Mortem,’ which will kick off the ‘Cultural Awareness’ performance.

“I wanted to explore various emotions and life experiences that impact us,” Delong shared.

In ‘Post Mortem,’ Delong aims to depict a lifeline from birth to death, capturing the range of human emotions, including love and heartbreak, through physical expression.

“For the music, I’ve chosen hip hop and R&B,” Delong explained. “I’ve also included a segment dedicated to the Black male experience, addressing societal stigmas and challenges they face.”

‘Cultural Awareness’ is designed to celebrate cultural diversity and express a spectrum of emotions through dance, ranging from struggles to moments of joy.

“Art serves as a means to express our day-to-day struggles and emotions,” Delong reflected. “It offers a different perspective that may enlighten others to see things in a new light.”

The performance of ‘Cultural Awareness’ is scheduled for February 9-10 at the Wyly Theatre in Dallas, with both in-person and online viewing options available.
