The individual being sought in a manhunt within the NW Harris County neighborhood may potentially be regarded as a witness, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO)

A man who was the focus of a search following a fatal shooting is now under custody, as investigators from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) work to ascertain whether he is a suspect or a witness.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, in a post on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), mentioned that deputies had responded to a shooting incident at an apartment complex in the 11100 block of Grant Road, where the potential suspect fled.

captured footage as law enforcement apprehended the individual on Summer Mill Drive in northwest Harris County. During the arrest, he was bitten by an HCSO K9 and subsequently transported to a hospital. The Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office also contributed to the search effort.

Sgt. Sidney Miller provided additional details at the original scene, stating, “We suspect he may have been a witness. However, we are not confirming. That hasn’t been confirmed. It’s still under investigation. We’re going to talk to him to see what his involvement was.”

Deputies were dispatched to the courtyard of an apartment complex around 4:45 p.m., where they discovered a man in his early 20s had been shot and killed.

According to HCSO, the victim and a companion met three other men, leading to the deadly encounter.

“Doing some kind of transaction. Don’t know of what exactly,” Miller explained. “During that transaction, our victim was shot, and a male friend was trying to give aid to the victim, and he eventually fled the scene.”

Initially labeled as a potential suspect, the individual eluded deputies, abandoning his vehicle at a gas station before fleeing on foot. A resident captured footage of him on their doorbell camera and shared it with. Law enforcement established a perimeter and secured an apartment complex for the search.

Around 6:30 p.m., officers cornered him in a backyard near Mills and Perry roads, bringing the manhunt to an end.

“We still have a lot of questions,” Miller emphasized.

The identity of the shooting victim has not been disclosed.
