Madison High School was placed on lockdown due to fights, leading to a subsequent ban on cellphones for students on campus, as stated by HISD

Madison High School in southwest Houston underwent a lockdown on Friday due to recent fights and the implementation of a new ban on cell phones. Several students staged a protest in response later that same day.

According to officials from the Houston Independent School District (HISD), there have been several altercations on the campus recently. As a result, the principal announced that students would no longer be permitted to use their cell phones at school, effective from the following Monday.

Under the new policy, any student bringing a phone to school must surrender it at the front office and retrieve it at the end of the day.

Some parents expressed concerns about the decision to confiscate phones, citing safety reasons and the need to stay informed about their children’s whereabouts.

HISD officials assured that additional security measures would be in place on Monday when the new policy takes effect.
