Video footage shows a suspicious individual wandering around the work area of an auto shop in Northwest Houston before the shooting occurred

Newly obtained surveillance footage is expected to provide investigators with insight into the events that led to a Harris County Precinct 6 deputy constable shooting at a man inside a BMW on Saturday afternoon.

The incident unfolded near D&E Tire & Auto Service on Tanner Road and Burnside Lane in the Carverdale neighborhood, which is owned by the Olvera family. According to David Olvera Jr., a man wearing a green shirt and with a thin build was observed wandering among cars parked around the family’s business.

“He saw the Charger and saw the 2500 Ram, and he was inside the 2500 Ram,” Olvera recounted, while presenting a video capturing the man’s movements around the vehicles. “When I turned my back (to move a car), that’s when he noticed I was coming back out of the building.”

Olvera expressed suspicion about the man’s behavior. Shortly afterward, the man entered the black BMW sedan he had been driving and, as Olvera described, started driving towards the car repair shop.

At that moment, the off-duty Precinct 6 deputy constable was at the repair shop to pick up his car.

“He was telling him to stop, but he didn’t,” Olvera stated, referring to the deputy.

In a still shot from the video, the deputy is depicted with one hand on the door of the BMW, facing the suspect. Subsequently, a shot is fired.

“He just shot one time at the tire. He popped the tire. That’s the only thing I saw,” Olvera described.

The suspect quickly fled the scene. Surveillance footage revealed that the car had been involved in an accident, exhibiting several dents and scratches. Although the BMW was located a few miles down the road, the suspect remained at large.

Houston police are leading the investigation into the incident. As of now, it remains unclear what prompted the confrontation and subsequent shooting.
