According to the Houston Police Department, an 18-month-old child was struck and killed in a hotel parking lot in NW Houston after the driver failed to see the toddler

In Houston, Texas, a woman driving a vehicle accidentally struck and killed a toddler girl who was playing in the parking lot of an extended-stay hotel, according to the Houston Police Department’s statement on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred at 6099 Guhn Road near the U.S. 290/Northwest Freeway feeder in the Fairbanks/Northwest Crossing area around 6:32 p.m., as reported by Northwest Patrol officers.

Lieutenant Larry Crowson of the HPD stated that the tragic accident involved an 18-month-old girl who was playing in the parking lot of the HomeTowne Studios Houston – Northwest hotel.

Emergency responders swiftly transported the toddler to the hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

The driver of a small SUV, initially displaying no signs of intoxication, stayed at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement, as per Crowson. DWI task force officers were dispatched for further investigation, and HPD Vehicular Crimes investigators were summoned to assess the incident. The findings will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office for potential charges.

Crowson noted the driver’s distress following the incident and mentioned the presence of multiple families with children residing at the hotel, including the victim’s parents who were present at the scene.
