Shaquille O’Neal is participating as a sponsor in a gun buyback event in Dallas

NBA icon Shaquille O’Neal is backing a gun buyback event set for Saturday in Dallas, as announced by the county sheriff’s office on Monday.

The initiative offers a secure avenue for individuals to surrender unwanted firearms.

Participants returning handguns will receive a $100 gift card, while those surrendering long guns will receive $125 gift cards.

Sheriff Brown emphasized, “This is an opportunity for law enforcement to educate and equip community members with the tools to properly dispose of unwanted firearms. Too many deaths have occurred from firearms lying around and they end up in the hands of the vulnerable population.”

Expressing support for Sheriff Brown’s efforts, O’Neal stated, “I support Sheriff Brown’s initiatives; Sheriff is doing the right thing and keeping our communities safe.”

The buyback program is exclusively open to private Dallas County residents, with firearm dealers or manufacturers not allowed to participate. Additionally, residents are limited to surrendering three firearms each, and no identification is required.

The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, February 10, at the Dallas County Sheriff’s Training Academy located at 8401 S. Polk Street in Dallas.
