The Houston Astros have secured the core of their team, Jose Altuve, through 2029, solidifying him as the team’s “heart and soul.”

In a move that solidifies Jose Altuve as the cornerstone of the Houston Astros, the team has extended his contract for five more years, keeping him with the franchise through 2029.

Astros general manager Dana Brown described Altuve as the team’s “heart and soul” and emphasized the importance of retaining such a key player within the core of the team.

Altuve’s journey with the Astros has been remarkable, starting from humble beginnings when he was initially turned away during a tryout in Venezuela at the age of 16. Despite facing challenges, he persevered and eventually signed with the Astros for $15,000, spending five seasons in the minor leagues before making his mark in the majors.

Former Astros infielder Craig Biggio recalled being impressed by Altuve’s determination and work ethic since his early days in spring training. Despite his small stature, Altuve’s impact on the team has been immense, becoming a pivotal figure during the Astros’ successful years.

Altuve reflected on his journey, emphasizing his commitment to giving his all on the field and contributing to the team’s success.

Now, with this contract extension, the Astros have ensured that Altuve will remain an integral part of the team throughout his career.
