An Arlington Police officer shot and killed a man during a traffic stop on Interstate 20 Thursday afternoon. The officer, conducting traffic duty on a motorcycle, pulled over a driver for erratic behavior.
During the encounter, the officer instructed the driver to turn off his vehicle. However, the driver refused and remained inside the car. The officer observed that the man was armed and repeatedly ordered him to put down the firearm.
When the driver did not comply, the officer fired multiple shots, hitting the man at least once. The driver, who was alone in the car, was transported to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the driver will be disclosed by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office after notifying the family.
The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation, including an internal review to assess the officer’s adherence to department policies.
The officer involved is on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigations. The incident temporarily closed westbound I-20, causing traffic disruptions.
Multiple investigations, including one by homicide detectives, are underway. The officer’s name has not been released at this time.
