Fort Worth burglar rescued after jumping into Trinity River, police say

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, emergency crews responded to a situation along the Trinity River in Fort Worth. They were summoned after a burglar leaped into the water in an attempt to evade police.

The incident occurred around 5:08 a.m. in the 300 block of Oakhurst Scenic Drive. Fort Worth Police were alerted to a potential robbery in progress in the area.

According to authorities, the burglar was attempting to break into vehicles parked in a garage at an apartment complex when officers arrived on the scene. Upon encountering the suspect, he fled on foot and jumped into the nearby river.

Emergency responders, including personnel from the Fort Worth Fire Department, were able to rescue the burglar from the water. Subsequently, he was transported to a local hospital for a medical assessment.

The identity of the individual has not yet been disclosed. However, he faces charges including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest detention with a previous conviction, and theft of property ranging from $1,500 to $20,000.

As of the latest update on Monday night, the suspect remains hospitalized.
