Woman tells she was armed for protection, didn’t realize HCSO at door before they shot her

Eboni Pouncy, 28, who was shot by sheriff’s deputies at her friend’s apartment in the Cloverleaf area on Feb. 3, is sharing her account in an exclusive interview with.

According to Pouncy, she and her friend returned to the apartment after her friend realized she had forgotten her keys, leading them to break a window for entry.

A downstairs neighbor, believing a break-in was occurring, called 911, prompting the arrival of two Harris County sheriff’s deputies around 2 a.m.

In the released body camera footage, the deputies can be heard knocking and identifying themselves as the “Sheriff’s office.”

Pouncy explained that upon hearing the knock, she armed herself but did not hear the deputies identify themselves.

When asked why she had a gun, Pouncy cited the broken window and her concerns for safety, especially at that hour.

In the body camera footage, one of the deputies instructs Pouncy to drop her gun, after which both deputies open fire.

Pouncy, who was hit five times, including twice in the chest, initially didn’t realize she had been shot.

Following the shooting, Pouncy’s friend is seen being directed downstairs by deputies, while Pouncy, after praying, manages to make her way downstairs too.

Now facing a challenging recovery process, Pouncy, a mother of a 1-year-old, requires a walker and experiences pain even during simple activities.

Pouncy has enlisted civil rights attorney Ben Crump to represent her and intends to explore her legal options further.

The deputies involved have been placed on leave pending an internal investigation, and the case has been referred to a grand jury, as is customary in deputy-involved shootings.
