Man shot, killed by homeowner after confrontation over alleged stolen BBQ pit in NE Harris Co.: HCSO

Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting involving an alleged robbery suspect in northeast Harris County early Sunday morning.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office stated that deputies were dispatched to the 1500 block of Ralston Road and Kentington Oak just before 6 a.m. following reports of a man being shot.

According to preliminary investigations, the deceased man had allegedly stolen a barbecue pit from a homeowner moments before the shooting.

Investigators determined that the homeowner exited his residence, entered his vehicle, and pursued the suspect for a short distance before catching up with him.

The homeowner then confronted the suspect after exiting his vehicle.

The homeowner reported to HCSO that he perceived the suspect may have reached for a weapon, prompting him to fear for his safety and discharge his firearm multiple times, striking the suspect.

While there was a second individual inside the suspect’s vehicle, they were unharmed and will not face charges at this time.

The homeowner cooperated fully with investigators and provided a detailed statement regarding the shooting, according to Gonzalez.

Once the investigation concludes, the case will be referred to a grand jury for further consideration.
