Fight leads to deadly shooting outside North Texas nursing home

Authorities from the Bridgeport Police Department, Wise County Sheriff’s Office, and Texas Rangers are conducting an investigation into a shooting incident that turned fatal following a fight outside a nursing home on Sunday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:42 p.m. in the 2000 block of 16th Street.

According to the Bridgeport Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Bridgeport Medical Lodge in response to a report of two men engaged in a physical altercation in the vicinity. The caller then informed the police of hearing gunshots and witnessing one of the men heading toward the rear entrance of the medical lodge.

Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered a man injured with a gunshot wound. Witnesses promptly informed officers that the suspected shooter had fled in the direction of the nursing home’s back entrance. Authorities detained the individual for further investigation and also recovered a firearm near the scene believed to be associated with the shooting.

Emergency personnel from the Bridgeport Fire Department and Wise County EMS provided medical assistance to the wounded victim before transporting him to Medical City in Decatur. Unfortunately, the man succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 1:35 p.m.

As of now, the identities of the victim and the suspected shooter have not been disclosed.
