Your Voice, Your Vote: Here’s what you need to know about voting for the Texas primary election

Early voting for the Texas primary election kicks off this week, starting on Tuesday, February 20, and continuing until Friday, March 1.

During early voting, voters will have the opportunity to select their preferred candidates for various positions, including U.S. president, U.S. Senate, congressional and legislative offices, the State Board of Education, the Railroad Commission of Texas, and judicial seats.

With 119 races in the Democratic primary and 122 in the Republican primary, the specific races available to voters depend on their registration and chosen party affiliation.

Harris County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth is encouraging voters to take advantage of early voting, which is available at any of the 79 polling places across the county. Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. during the early voting period, except on Sunday, February 25, when they will be open from noon to 7 p.m.

This year, there will be a joint primary, meaning all voters will use the same equipment regardless of party affiliation. In previous years, separate locations or setups were provided for Democratic and Republican voters.

On Election Day, election workers will wear nametags indicating whether they are affiliated with the Democratic or Republican Party, and they will assist voters accordingly.

Curbside voting is available for disabled individuals, and the deadline to apply for a mail ballot is Friday, February 23.

Written materials, including sample ballots, are permitted inside polling centers.

Primary Election Day is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5. For additional election information, visit www.HarrisVotes.com.
