Forest Hill fires police chief, names interim replacement

Following the termination of Eddie Burns Sr. earlier this month, the City of Forest Hill has appointed Captain Lee Sumpter as the interim police chief.

In a statement released on Friday, the city announced that Captain Sumpter assumed the role of interim chief effective February 17th.

The decision to terminate Burns was made after city officials conducted discussions regarding multiple recent matters, which led them to conclude that separation was the best course of action for all parties involved.

The city did not disclose specific details about the nature of these matters, stating that they preferred to maintain confidentiality between Burns and city officials at this time.

Captain Sumpter brings 19 years of experience within the department and a total of 23 years in law enforcement.

The city also mentioned that they will initiate a search for a permanent replacement in the near future.
