Grandfather killed in apartment fire, where woman and 2 grandchildren escape in NW Houston: HFD

An apartment fire in northwest Houston early Saturday resulted in the death of a man and the hospitalization of a woman, as reported by the Houston Fire Department.

The fire occurred at the Pine Forest Park Apartments in the 5300 block of Deep Forest.

Deputy Chief Roger Westoff of HFD stated that upon arrival at the complex, units observed the fire extending from the first to the second floor.

Fire crews entered the building to extinguish the fire. Westoff mentioned that the woman managed to evacuate herself from the apartment along with her two grandchildren.

A ladder crew inside the building located the man and rescued him. However, EMS transported him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The woman was also taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, while the children remained unharmed, according to officials.

Investigators are currently working to determine the exact cause of the fire.
