‘It’s been over 60 days without my son’ Mother fights to get son back from CPS following trip to hospital

A North Texas mother, Joslyn Sanders, alleges that a visit to Children’s Health Medical Center in Dallas led to a Child Protective Services (CPS) investigation, resulting in the temporary loss of custody of her two-year-old son, Josiah.

Sanders, who is recovering from a spinal cord injury, claims she objected to her son receiving a specific antibiotic and left the hospital against medical advice, leading to a disagreement with a doctor. CPS and police officers later showed up at her home, and despite Sanders agreeing to take her son to another hospital, CPS allegedly removed him without a court order.

The family contends that CPS’s actions violated their rights. Sanders will seek to regain custody in a Denton County courtroom.

CPS has stated that Josiah is in their care but has been placed with a relative. The family disputes this placement and is receiving support from social justice groups and State Representative Carl Sherman.
