Arrest made in shooting that killed teen at Dallas Church’s Chicken restaurant

Dallas police have apprehended a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting of a teenager at a fast-food restaurant in South Dallas earlier this month.

Jeremy Grant, 23 years old, faces charges of murder in the death of 17-year-old Marcos Villanueva.

The incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 10, at Church’s Chicken located in the 4600 block of Scyene Road.

Upon receiving reports of a shooting, Dallas police officers rushed to the scene and found Villanueva suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Witnesses recounted that a Black man wearing a burnt orange hoodie, dark-colored pants, and white flip-flops entered the restaurant and specifically asked for Villanueva, who was working at the time. As Villanueva approached the front counter, Grant allegedly brandished a handgun and fired multiple shots at the teen before fleeing the scene on foot.

Despite the efforts of Dallas Fire Rescue personnel, Villanueva succumbed to his injuries.

During the investigation, homicide detectives scoured the area for several days and obtained surveillance footage capturing Grant wearing clothing matching the description of the gunman.

According to an affidavit released by Dallas County officials, detectives reviewed body camera footage from an incident occurring in the same vicinity on Friday, Feb. 2, where Grant, matching the physical description of the shooter, interacted with law enforcement.

Based on information provided by a witness to the shooting, detectives conducted a photographic lineup where the witness identified Grant as the perpetrator.

Grant was taken into custody on Monday, Feb. 19, and is currently held at the Dallas County Jail under a bond of $1.25 million.
