Dallas high school girls’ team headed to state basketball tournament

The girls’ basketball team at Lincoln High School in Dallas is gearing up for the chance to become state champions, but they find themselves practicing without their head coach.

Ahead of the UIL 4A state basketball tournament matchup against Waco La Vega on Friday, the Lady Tigers held an open practice and media session on Wednesday, conspicuously missing their head coach.

Dallas ISD declined to provide details, stating, “In light of a personnel matter we cannot discuss, the coaches will ensure the team is well-prepared and supported. Our focus remains on the girls’ incredible accomplishments this season, and look forward to celebrating their continued success.”

Despite the absence of their head coach, the Lady Tigers exude confidence, believing in their abilities to excel on the court.

Assistant coach Artavia Burns commends the team’s dedication and unity, emphasizing their unwavering belief in themselves.

With her own championship experience, Burns stresses the importance of defense and arranged practice in Addison to help the players acclimate to the Alamo Dome’s environment.

For the players, the opportunity to compete for the state championship is both exhilarating and unforgettable.

Lincoln High School’s Lady Tigers will have a send-off on Thursday morning before heading to San Antonio. The semi-final is scheduled for Friday, with the potential championship game on Saturday.
