The ladies leading the Texas Cattlemen’s Trail Ride

In Houston, Texas, the Texas Cattlemen’s Trail Ride made history this year by being led by an all-female team. Melody Page serves as the Trail Boss, while Lea Fistein takes on the role of Assistant Trail Boss.

“It’s a significant responsibility, no doubt,” remarked Fistein. “I believe we always have to prove ourselves doubly compared to the men.”

Their journey of 60 miles commenced from Plantersville on February 18th. Arriving in Houston, they participated in the Rodeo parade on February 24th.

An essential aim of The Texas Cattlemen’s Trail Ride is to educate children about the tradition of trail riding.

“This is how they traversed the country,” explained Page.

During the ride, both the trail riders and their horses adorned pink in solidarity with their trail boss, Page, who is a breast cancer survivor.

“We simply want everyone to be aware of it and encourage women to get checked early,” emphasized Page.

This year, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo honored the Texas Cattlemen’s Trail Ride with first place in its division.
