Ribbon cutting opens FWISD’s newest school-based market

The grand opening of the Village Market at Jacquet Middle School commenced with a ceremonial ribbon cutting and a lively performance by the school band on Tuesday morning. This initiative was launched to address a pressing need within the Stop Six neighborhood.

Zenobia Hood, the Director of Parent Partnerships at Fort Worth ISD, highlighted the significance of the market’s presence in addressing the area’s food desert issue. The selection of market locations is based on zip codes, prioritizing areas with the highest need, such as Stop Six neighborhood, which faces significant food insecurity within Tarrant County.

Peggy Saldovar, Jacquet Middle School’s Family Engagement Specialist, expressed gratitude to the community for their collective effort in bringing the market to fruition, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the project.

The Village Market is a collaborative effort between FWISD, the Rainwater Charitable Foundation, and the Tarrant Area Food Bank. Julie Butner, President & CEO of the Tarrant Area Food Bank, praised the choice of the name ‘Village’, underscoring the sense of community fostered by schools.

With an initial aim to serve 50-75 families, the Village Market at Jacquet Middle School plans to expand its reach in the future.
