NE Harris County school district sued for illegally influencing election, AG Paxton says

Harris County’s northeastern school district is among five districts facing legal action from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton for allegedly misusing state resources to influence political races.

According to Paxton’s office, Huffman ISD’s Superintendent purportedly instructed Hargrave High School staff on Feb. 7 to support 16 candidates who opposed school vouchers, an act deemed in violation of the Texas Election Code.

These lawsuits are part of Paxton’s broader campaign to curb illegal political campaigning statewide. Castleberry ISD has already agreed to an order against such actions, while Frisco ISD has been placed under a temporary restraining order. Denton ISD and Denison ISD are also facing similar legal challenges.

While the Attorney General’s office cannot currently pursue criminal charges under the Election Code, Paxton seeks civil injunctive relief to compel the districts to cease such activities.

Huffman ISD for comment and is awaiting a response.
