Family of Arlington murder victim offers reward as police continue search for person of interest

Nearly six months have passed since the tragic death of Jamiya Strong, who was fatally shot in the parking lot of an apartment complex.

For Coretta Strong, the mother of the 24-year-old victim, reconciling the senseless hatred behind her daughter’s murder with memories of Jamiya’s vibrant personality remains a difficult task.

“She’d always say, ‘Smile. Life is too short. There’s nothing to be sad about.’ But now, I have plenty to be sad about because she’s not here with me,” Coretta Strong lamented.

On September 25, 2023, at the Garden Park Apartments on Sherry Street in Arlington, Jamiya was discovered shot multiple times next to a dark-colored pickup truck. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, she tragically succumbed to her injuries.

In January, the Arlington Police identified 20-year-old Juan Angel Fraire as a person of interest in the case, stating that they believe he possesses crucial information regarding the incident.

Although Coretta Strong remains unsure of her daughter’s connection to Fraire or the circumstances leading to her presence at the scene, she firmly believes that someone out there holds the key to his whereabouts.

“We’re offering a $2,000 reward for any information that leads to his arrest,” she declared.

Expressing her anguish over the situation, Strong emphasized the disparity between her daughter’s untimely demise and Fraire’s continued freedom.

“It won’t ease the pain, but just knowing that he’s out there living freely… he gets to spend every holiday with his family, while my daughter lies in a grave that I visit constantly,” Strong lamented. “I can almost hear her telling me, ‘Mom, it’s going to be okay. It’s going to be okay.'”

Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the murder or Fraire’s whereabouts to contact the Arlington Police.
