Severe storms leave hail, tornado damage in North Texas

Thursday’s storms left a lasting impact on North Texas, with residents like Christopher Reddick closely monitoring the weather throughout the day.

Reddick, recalling his concern for his wife’s safety, decided to capture a drone timelapse video from a Keller parking lot around 6 p.m., facing north towards Roanoke.

Fortunately, Reddick’s wife made it home safely, but the storm brought significant hail to Denton County.

Geoff Gray, a homeowner in Little Elm, described the hail as resembling “a heavy downpour of golf balls.” He noticed the hail bouncing off his neighbor’s home before it started hitting his windows.

While Gray’s property was spared from extensive damage, others in the neighborhood weren’t as fortunate, with reports of shattered home and car windows.

The National Weather Service Fort Worth received video evidence of a tornado from a neighbor, confirming it as an EF-0 tornado with winds reaching up to 85 mph. The tornado’s path was less than a quarter-mile.

Jennifer Dunn from the NWS visited UNT’s Frisco campus to assess the damage. She reported that the tornado overturned a car, damaged signs on campus, and uprooted small trees in a nearby park.

Despite the tornado’s impact, there were no reported injuries, highlighting the importance of staying weather aware during severe weather season. Dunn emphasized the need to follow meteorologists and utilize multiple alert sources to ensure safety.
