Driver with fake paper plates takes off from police, later crashes on West Beltway, HPD says

In Houston, Texas, all lanes of the West Sam Houston Tollway northbound near West Road were finally reopened more than an hour after authorities reported a police chase culminating in a rollover crash on Wednesday afternoon.

SkyEye captured footage of the scene in northwest Harris County, where a black vehicle lay overturned along the shoulder, while a minivan with side damage and possibly children nearby was observed.

Law enforcement refrained from immediately confirming any connection between the two vehicles.

As per the Houston Police Department, the incident began around 2:05 p.m. on the I-610 South Loop, where a vehicle bearing fake paper plates ran a red light. Despite officers’ attempts to initiate a traffic stop, the suspect fled without compliance.

HPD informed Eyewitness News that the pursuit proceeded onto the South Sam Houston Tollway, heading towards the I-10 Katy Freeway. The crash subsequently unfolded further up the roadway near West Road.

Authorities have yet to verify the number of occupants in the suspect vehicle or the severity of injuries resulting from the incident.

Despite the lanes being cleared, traffic in the area remained sluggish. At one juncture, Houston TranStar reported northbound congestion extending to Hammerly Boulevard and southbound delays reaching Gessner Road.
