Houston pastor says robber ‘put gun right in my face’ before being shot after leaving rodeo

A Houston pastor is recovering after reportedly sustaining gunshot wounds to both shoulders during a robbery incident as he was leaving the rodeo.

Thomas Wilson recounted that he received tickets to attend the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo on March 13 and attended the event with his secretary. After parking their vehicle on the street in the 8900 block of Interchange Drive, south of I-610, they enjoyed the evening, attending part of the concert before deciding to leave around 10 or 10:30 p.m.

As they returned to their car, Wilson observed that their vehicle, along with several others, had broken windows. Shortly after, they were approached by an individual wearing a hoodie.

Wilson recalled the man asking to use his phone, to which he declined. When the man persisted and attempted to grab Wilson’s bag, a struggle ensued. The situation escalated when the man produced a gun and aimed it at Wilson’s face.

In the ensuing altercation, Wilson was shot once in each shoulder before the assailant fled the scene.

Wilson, in his 60s, was admitted to the hospital but was discharged after one night, without requiring pain medication. He expressed gratitude for his recovery, attributing it to divine protection.

Despite forgiving the perpetrator, Wilson expressed the importance of accountability for their actions. The suspect is described by Houston police as a Black man dressed in all black and missing a shoe.

Authorities urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
