Teen faces intoxication manslaughter charges in crash that killed family of 6

A North Texas teenager faces multiple charges of intoxication manslaughter following a tragic accident that claimed the lives of a family of six. The incident occurred the day after Christmas last year.

Luke Resecker was initially hospitalized in critical condition following the crash. However, this week, the seventeen-year-old was formally charged with a series of felony offenses.

According to authorities, Resecker was driving a Chevrolet Silverado southbound on US 67, just south of Cleburne in Johnson County, when he veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with a northbound Honda Odyssey.

Tragically, the head-on collision resulted in the deaths of six family members, believed to be Indian nationals visiting relatives in Texas. The victims ranged in age from 9 to 64 years old, including a 9-year-old girl, a 10-year-old, a 36-year-old woman, a 60-year-old woman, and a 64-year-old man. The van’s driver, 28-year-old Rushil Barri of Irving, was also fatally injured in the crash.

The Texas Department of Public Safety announced that Resecker was arraigned on Tuesday, facing six counts of intoxication manslaughter, two counts of intoxication assault, possession of a controlled substance, and additional charges.

Due to an ongoing medical condition, the teenager was deemed unfit to be booked into the Johnson County Jail and was placed under monitored home confinement.

Resecker has since posted bond set at $50,000.

NBC 5 attempted to contact the family of the six victims for their response to the latest developments but was unable to reach them immediately.
