Officers stop driver a block from Minute Maid Park, find another person shot inside, HPD says

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – An investigation into a shooting incident commenced on Friday evening near Minute Maid Park, with Capitol at Crawford Street remaining closed as authorities worked to gather evidence.

Although the shots were believed to have been fired elsewhere, the vicinity around Capitol at Crawford was affected by the ongoing investigation.

Houston police informed ABC13 that the incident involved two men who were shot, with the altercation originating in the 2000 block of Rothwell around 6 p.m. This location is approximately five minutes away from Minute Maid Park.

One of the victims, described as a man in his 40s, sustained gunshot wounds to both legs and independently transported himself to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The investigation near the ballpark intensified after authorities stopped a black BMW for running a red light on Capitol Street near Incarnate Word Academy. Inside the vehicle, they discovered a man in his 30s who had sustained gunshot wounds to his torso, hands, and both arms. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) transported him to a hospital for medical attention.

The driver of the BMW informed police that he was attempting to aid the gunshot victim, but also admitted the possibility of having fired some shots himself.

“We’re working to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding his statement,” stated Lt. R. Wilkins of the Houston Police Department. “Determining the truth will require thorough investigation.”

Authorities confirmed the recovery of weapons at the scene of the incident.
