Dallas businesses anticipate significant impact from solar eclipse despite cloudy forecast

With just eight days remaining until the total solar eclipse in the DFW area, cities throughout the Metroplex are gearing up for potential large crowds and significant increases in tourism revenue from eclipse travelers.

However, the latest forecast indicates that April 8 might not offer the ideal conditions to witness this rare celestial event.

Despite the possibility of cloudy skies, officials and businesses in Dallas express optimism about the day.

Klyde Warren Park in Dallas witnessed another bustling afternoon on Sunday, mirroring the heightened excitement surrounding the impending eclipse.

Craig Davis, President/CEO of Visit Dallas, notes that downtown has been unusually busy in anticipation of the eclipse, with business tracking about 35% higher than usual for this time of year.

On April 8, Dallas will stand as the largest city in the country to experience a total blackout from the solar eclipse, potentially bringing over a 40% boost to local businesses.

Although recent forecasts from NBC5’s weather experts suggest partly cloudy and potentially rainy conditions on April 8, tourism leaders in Dallas report minimal cancellations of plans due to the weather forecast.

Given the significant business impact already observed, optimism remains high among local leaders.

Despite the weather uncertainties, Davis emphasizes that the full eclipse will darken the skies entirely, offering a unique experience for observers.

At HG Supply Co. in Dallas’s Greenville neighborhood, rooftop bookings for April 8 have been ongoing for weeks, with an estimated 250 people expected to witness totality from there.

Phillip Lee, the restaurant’s assistant GM, shares plans for a DJ event and catering food for the evening, indicating that the watch party will proceed rain or shine.

Employees at the restaurant affirm that there have been no cancellations due to weather concerns, emphasizing that they will continue with their event plans.

Lee acknowledges that while the event may face challenges in inclement weather, the rooftop will still provide a beautiful setting, and the few minutes of complete darkness during totality will remain a remarkable experience.

NBC 5’s weather experts will provide ongoing updates on conditions for the day of the eclipse, ensuring viewers can enjoy this extraordinary event to the fullest.
