Beloved geese reunited after being stolen from North Texas park

The disappearance of two cherished geese has stirred up concern in Allen.

Betty and Fred, as they are affectionately known, have been part of the landscape at Bethany Lakes Park for over a decade, where they’ve become beloved fixtures among park visitors.

Their sudden absence over the weekend caused a stir among the community, especially after photos surfaced on social media showing a woman removing the geese from the park. The images sparked outrage and led to a swift response from concerned individuals like Lauren Bradshaw and Andrea Shanks.

Fortunately, thanks to the images, the story took a positive turn. The person responsible for taking the geese was identified, leading to Betty’s return on Monday afternoon. However, Fred remained separated from his mate.

After a thorough examination by Allen Animal Services, Fred was found to be unharmed, and both geese are set to be released back into the park together on Tuesday morning.

Despite the upsetting incident, no laws were violated since the geese are domestic and not protected under migratory species regulations. Consequently, no charges will be filed.
