With the ever-present threat of severe weather in Texas during this time of year, the state is urging residents to prepare by offering a sales tax holiday on emergency supplies this weekend.

The 2024 Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday will take place from 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, until midnight on Monday, April 29. During this time, certain items essential for emergency preparedness will be exempt from sales tax.

Eligible items include:

– Portable generators (priced at less than $3,000)
– Emergency ladders and hurricane shutters (priced at less than $300)
– Axes, batteries, can openers, carbon monoxide detectors, coolers, fire extinguishers, first aid kits, fuel containers, ground anchor systems, hatchets, ice products, light sources, mobile telephone batteries and chargers, radios, smoke detectors, tarps, and plastic sheeting (priced at less than $75 each)

If you happen to pay sales tax on any of these items during the holiday period, you can request a refund of the tax from the seller.
