Tarrant Appraisal District extends property tax protest deadline

The Tarrant Appraisal District has announced an extension of the deadline to protest property tax valuations.

Citing delays in the availability of the protest dashboard, TAD revealed on Friday that the deadline to file a protest has been pushed back to May 24. Typically, property owners have 30 days from receiving their valuation to submit a protest.

Chief Appraiser Joe Don Bobbit emphasized the importance of allowing property owners sufficient time to review their assessments and file protests accordingly. He noted the effectiveness of the online protest tool, which has already facilitated successful negotiations for several hundred individuals.

Additionally, the deadline for business personal property rendition has been extended to May 15 due to the unavailability of the online rendition tool. Bobbit assured fairness and accessibility in the protest process for all parties.

While acknowledging potential intermittent issues with the TAD website during updates and feature additions, Bobbit advised accessing the site during off-peak hours. He clarified that despite ongoing recovery efforts from a recent cyber-attack, the current website version remains uncompromised.

To further assist property owners, TAD has established a call center operating Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Individuals can inquire about mailed letters and seek additional information by calling 1-800-939-4170.

Bobbit expressed gratitude for patience and understanding during this period of recovery and improvement.
