In Houston, Texas, personal injury attorney Chi Nguyen played a role in the apprehension of a suspect who broke into his family’s home on Monday.
Houston Police Department officers responded to the residence on Telephone Road near Beatty on the southeast side, where they discovered the intruder had been shot.
Although Attorney Nguyen does not reside in the home himself, his family does. A prominent billboard advertising the Pusch and Nguyen law firm is located prominently at the front of the property.
While Nguyen did not fire the shot, a witness reported that he restrained the suspect until officers arrived at the scene.
Francisco Saldana, a nearby resident, recounted hearing gunshots from his apartment and witnessing Nguyen subduing the suspect in the street.
Houston police confirmed that the family member shot the intruder in self-defense after the man allegedly charged at him with a metal object.
The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Rene Blanco, was transported to the hospital and is expected to recover.
Saldana, who also operates a food truck in the area, expressed shock at the incident, highlighting concerns about crime in the neighborhood. According to ABC13’s Neighborhood Safety Tracker, there have been 100 burglaries in the vicinity over the past year.
Saldana emphasized the precautions he takes, such as leaving multiple vehicles running with lights on when closing the food truck.
Blanco, described as attempting to gain entry to the home by posing as a delivery driver, now faces burglary charges.
