Houston, Harris County’s weekend of bloodshed leaves several dead

Over the weekend, reported on a total of 11 shootings across Houston and Harris County, marking a distressing surge in violence. Among these incidents, four proved fatal, including a tragic murder-suicide on Coal Street in Kashmere Gardens.

In this murder-suicide case, authorities discovered a woman stabbed to death around 12:25 a.m. on Saturday, while her husband was found nearby with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Lt. R. Willkens of the Houston Police Department.

Another fatal shooting occurred in northwest Harris County on Sunday evening, where a 15-year-old was found dead in the 2100 block of Place Rebecca Lane. A 16-year-old was also shot but is expected to survive. Witnesses reported two Black males fleeing the scene, both allegedly wearing dark hoodies, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

In addition to these tragic fatalities, covered seven non-fatal shootings, including an incident in Denver Harbor on Saturday morning. According to the Houston Police Department, a waitress had her phone stolen by a customer at a restaurant on Lyons Avenue at Boyles Street. She called her boyfriend for assistance, resulting in a confrontation where two men were shot during the struggle for the device. Thankfully, both victims are expected to recover. Investigators are coordinating with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office to determine potential charges in this case.
