Man killed in Fort Worth hit-and-run crash remembered as ‘avid bicyclist’

Family and friends are mourning the tragic death of Daniel Frost, a 49-year-old Fort Worth resident who was killed while pursuing his passion: cycling.

Frost was discovered deceased near the intersection of East 1st Street and Beach Street on Saturday, May 11, following reports of a hit-and-run incident reported to the Fort Worth Police just before 6 a.m.

Authorities initiated an investigation into Frost’s death, led by both homicide and traffic investigators. It was suspected that Frost, an enthusiastic cyclist familiar with the area, was riding his bike when he was struck by a vehicle. His body was found not far from the north entrance of Gateway Park.

According to Frost’s family, he regularly cycled at least 10 miles in the vicinity every Saturday morning before meeting up with fellow cyclists.

The aftermath of the incident deeply affected the local community, with residents like William Goodrich expressing shock and concern.

“It was really bad,” said Goodrich, who resides in the area. “It made us really scared for a minute of coming to this park.”

On Sunday, May 12, authorities arrested 26-year-old Rolando Cruz in connection with the fatal hit-and-run. Cruz faces charges of a collision involving death and was subsequently detained at the Tarrant County Jail on a $40,000 bond.

As of Monday afternoon, investigators had not determined the cause of the crash, leaving cyclists in the area like Andrew Clark feeling unsettled.

“Riding on the roads is always a bit dicey,” Clark remarked.

Meanwhile, efforts are underway to enhance street safety in Fort Worth, including the expansion of bike lanes along E. 1st Street through a federally funded project.

In light of the tragedy, Frost’s loved ones have set up a GoFundMe page to support his memorial services, which is expected to be launched later this week in his honor.
