Who’s Hiring job fair focuses on what you can do to improve your career exploration

In the midst of graduation season, Who’s Hiring job fair aims to provide guidance on navigating career paths.

For Oscar Gil, landing a job at Intuitive Machines in Houston’s Spaceport seemed improbable after years of educational setbacks. Despite initially pursuing an engineering degree at the University of Houston, Gil’s journey took a different turn, leading him to San Jacinto College. It was there that he discovered the college’s aerospace certification program, which ultimately propelled his career to new heights.

“I never imagined I’d be building space vehicles for a living,” Gil expressed. “Working on moon landers and being part of such groundbreaking projects is incredibly fulfilling.”

Gil attributes his success to networking opportunities he seized while studying, emphasizing the importance of making connections in the workforce.

Juliet Stipeche, executive director of Workforce Solutions, highlights Gil’s story as a testament to the value of exploring different paths and leveraging connections to secure career opportunities.

Workforce Solutions offers scholarships and training programs across southeast Texas, providing accessible avenues for skill development and career advancement.

Gil’s experience exemplifies the flexibility and effectiveness of tailored educational programs. By working at his own pace, he swiftly transitioned from student to employee, contributing to the construction of a lunar lander that successfully reached the moon earlier this year.

“Keep pushing forward and seize every opportunity that comes your way,” Gil advises. “You never know where you’ll be in the future, so make the most of every moment.”
