Dashcam video shows deadly storm blasting through downtown, shifting car and blowing out windows

Houston, Texas (KTRK) — During last week’s storm, a Houston attorney hunkered down in his severely damaged car in downtown, capturing the entire ordeal on his dash camera.

Michael Lombardino, a partner at Haynes Boone, shared the footage exclusively with Eyewitness News. Reflecting on the experience, he said, “It was the scariest thing that’s ever happened to me.”

Lombardino had just left his office and encountered light drizzle. However, within a few blocks, conditions dramatically worsened. “A wall of wind and water just came out of nowhere and hit me,” he recounted.

He turned onto Louisiana Street, hoping the Wells Fargo Plaza would shield him from the wind. Instead, the office tower lost multiple windows, showering glass onto Lombardino and others on the street. Several of his car windows cracked, and his sunroof collapsed under the weight of the falling glass.

His dash cam footage shows the wind blowing out the rear window of the car in front of him, causing it to shift. Lombardino only realized the extent of the damage upon reviewing the video. “I was scared that all of my windows would collapse, and I didn’t want to get hit by a thousand pieces of glass. So I was hiding under my jacket, and I would peek up every once in a while,” he explained.

Amid the chaos, a car can be seen reversing into two people. At least one man, injured by storm debris, approached Lombardino’s car. “You could see a lot of blood on him. Poor guy,” Lombardino said.

Throughout the ordeal, his thoughts were with his family. “All I can remember is just thinking of my beautiful wife and my two kids. I don’t want to lose them,” he said. “Thank God I’m still here. Thank God I’m still here.”
