‘I’m about to die’: Women recounts her survival story after storm winds move car, blow out window

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — Darlene Brown shares her harrowing experience after dash camera footage captured strong winds moving her car and shattering its back window.

Brown was outside Wells Fargo Plaza last Thursday, waiting to pick up her brother from work when he called to say he was stuck in an elevator. Shortly after, the winds intensified, and debris began flying into her car.

“I thought I was actually going to be blown away,” Brown recalled.

Staying on the phone with her sister, she crouched down as glass shards and debris swirled around her.

“I told her, ‘I’m about to die. It’s going to sweep me out of this car. I’m going to die,'” she said.

Attorney Michael Lombardino, parked behind Brown, captured the incident on his dash camera. The footage shows the wind blowing out her back window and pushing her car into a curb.

“It felt like I was being lifted into the air. I thought it was going to take my car away,” Brown said.

Despite the frightening ordeal, Brown survived unscathed. However, upon returning home that night, she discovered a tree had fallen on her house.

“It couldn’t get any worse. I just thought, ‘I don’t know what we’re going to do now,'” she said.

Brown managed to cut up and remove the tree from her house without causing serious damage. Her car remains in the shop for repairs.
