Dashcam video shows deadly storm blasting through downtown, shifting car and blowing out windows

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — During last week’s storm, a Houston attorney hunkered down in his heavily damaged car in downtown, capturing everything on his dash camera.

Michael Lombardino, a partner at Haynes Boone, shared the harrowing video exclusively with Eyewitness News.

“It was the scariest thing that’s ever happened to me,” Lombardino recounted.

He had just left his office when it started drizzling. However, after only a few blocks, the weather took a sudden and dangerous turn.

“A wall of wind and water just came out of nowhere and hit me,” Lombardino said.

He turned onto Louisiana Street and parked outside Wells Fargo Plaza, hoping the building would shield him from the wind. Instead, the office tower lost multiple windows, and the glass rained down on Lombardino and others in the street below. Several windows in his car cracked, and his sunroof collapsed under the weight of the glass shards.

The video shows the wind blowing out the back window of the car in front of him and shifting it. Lombardino didn’t see this until he reviewed the footage.

“I was scared that all of my windows would collapse, and I didn’t want to get hit by a thousand pieces of glass. So I was hiding under my jacket and would peek up every once in a while,” he said.

In the chaos, a car backed into two people, and a man, apparently injured by storm debris, approached Lombardino’s car.

“You could see a lot of blood on him. Poor guy,” he said.

Throughout the ordeal, Lombardino’s thoughts were with his family.

“All I could think of was my beautiful wife and my two kids. I didn’t want to lose them,” he said. “Thank God I’m still here. Thank God I’m still here.”
