Some parks at lakes may be closed due to high rainfall

Rainfall in North Texas, with over 21 inches recorded at DFW Airport, has led to some lakes reaching or nearing capacity, resulting in closures at lakeside parks just ahead of the holiday weekend. Among the affected areas is Tickey Creek Park on Lavon Lake, where flooding conditions have prompted closure notices.

Despite the desire of some, like nearby resident Debbi McClellan, to visit the park, access has been restricted due to safety concerns. According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Lavon Lake, like many others in the region, is currently at full capacity, a significant increase from its 84% capacity six months ago.

Dirgam Vincere, whose uncle helps manage the park, emphasizes the importance of the closures for public safety, citing unsafe conditions for swimming or even walking near the water. Vincere expects the flooding to persist for weeks and expresses concern about erosion impacting public access areas.

As of now, three public parks around Lake Lavon, including Clear Lake Park (partially), Tickey Creek, and Little Ridge Parks, remain fully or partially closed due to flooding.

With more rain anticipated in the region, visitors are advised to check the conditions of lakes and parks before planning their outings.
