HCSO’s chief of staff arrested again, violated protective order in the Woodlands, MCSO says

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) — Jason Spencer, the chief of staff for Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, was arrested on Thursday evening in The Woodlands for allegedly violating a protection order, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO).

Documents reveal that on May 24, just before 4 p.m., MCSO deputies found Spencer, 51, sitting in his car outside a home, in direct violation of a court-issued protection order from Harris County.

After verifying the order, deputies detained Spencer and subsequently booked him into the Montgomery County Jail.

Protection orders are critical for safeguarding individuals from harassment, abuse, and threats.

Spencer’s law firm issued a statement to on Friday, explaining the situation:

“Mr. Spencer went to his ex-wife’s home to pick up his younger son for a planned visitation at the time of his arrest. There are no allegations of any threatening or harassing behavior, and he was waiting for his son inside his car parked on the street in front of the house.”

Earlier in May, Spencer was charged with “injury to a child” after allegations surfaced that he abused his teenage son eight months prior. Charging documents allege that Spencer slammed his 14-year-old son against a wall, threw a plastic gun case at him as he ran down the stairs, and pinned him to the ground by his arms at their home in the Heights on September 13, 2023.

Investigators reported that the boy’s medical records indicated he suffered abrasions to his arms, back, and face, a hematoma to his skull, and additional bruises.

Spencer appeared in court and posted bond.
